“Limitless expansion is over” What does the future hold for NCT?

What will the future of NCT, a group that once put forward the concept of “infinite expansion”, be like?

Amid the dispute over SM Entertainment’s management rights, the current management of SM Entertainment has come up with a new plan for NCT.

On February 25th, SM’s co-CEO Lee Sung Soo said in a video uploaded on SM’s official YouTube channel, “NCT will end its infinite expansion with the debut of the NCT Tokyo (tentative name) unit in 2023.”

NCT (Neo Culture Technology), which is composed of 23 multinational members, was focusing on an infinite expansion by recruiting an unlimited number of members and promoting in various cities around the world.

In the meantime, through the NCT system, SM has introduced units namely NCT U, NCT DREAM, NCT 127, and WayV over the past seven years. This was a representative K-pop project led by SM’s former general producer Lee Soo Man.

However, Lee Sung Soo, who was at the forefront of the dispute over management rights, started to draw a line with Lee Soo Man.

As one of the things being prepared for the SM 3.0 strategy, CEO Lee announced the end of NCT’s limitless expansion. NCT’s Hollywood debut plan aimed at advancing into the US has been completely scrapped.

In response to this, NCT’s existing fandom is showing support.

In the stance of infinite expansion, the existing NCT has too many members and individual units are not distinguished. Therefore, by removing this concept, the relatively low degree of unity of NCT’s fandom can be improved.

In addition, fans have been dissatisfied with the unequal amount of activities of the members under the existing NCT system. But now, there is an expectation that opportunities for more promotions will be given to the members.
