K-Drama

Lim Sang Chun’s return is stronger than IU and Park Bo Gum combined?

IU and Park Bo Gum will collaborate in a new K-drama, but many pay keen attention to screenwriter Lim Sang Chun instead.

Famous screenwriter Lim Sang Chun will be returning with a new project, and he’s a force to be reckoned with. In particular, after his debut with “Drama Festival 2014: Lump in My Life”’, the writer has since introduced various notable works, such as “Be Arrogant”, “Baek Hee Has Returned”, “Fight for My Way”, and “When the Camellia Blooms”. From one-act plays to mini-series, Lim Sang Chun has never known the taste of failure.

When The Camellia Blooms

In 2018, the writer was satisfied with being nominated for the 54th Baeksang Arts Awards’s Best Screenplay category for “Fight for My Way”, only to later win Best Screenplay at both the 2019 KBS Drama Awards and the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards for “When The Camellia Blooms”.

In 2020, he even received a commendation from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism at the 11th Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards. At the time, ”When the Camellia Blooms” was a syndrome-like hit, recording a highest viewership rating of 23.8% (based on Nielsen Korea). While there’s no denying the explosive chemistry of the series’ cast members, the writing skills of Lim Sang Chun, who created the characters, were simply tremendous.

When The Camellia Blooms

So far, all of Lim Sang Chun’s works have been filled with warm and meaningful messages of true family and love, as well as multi-layered characters. This is why the actors and officials who worked with the screenwriter all call Lim Sang Chun a genius.

In a photoshoot interview, actor Oh Jung Se, who was loved for his role as Noh Kyu Tae in “When the Camellia Blooms”, said, “Writer Lim Sang Chun dares to say anything, he’s a genius. It’s not a big role but a minor one. He told me, ‘It’s okay that this is your 47th role’. Thank you. Sincerely”.

Cha Yeong Hoon, who directed “When the Camellia Blooms”, also shared, “I knew it was definitely a very good script. As a director, it was a miracle and luck that I was able to meet such a script. Writer Lim Sang Chun also was happy about the work. The result we got was the drama ‘When the Camellia Blooms’”, pouring out compliments for his writer partner.

Lim Sang Chun will return with a new drama after three years. According to the production company Pan Entertainment on January 27th, his new work is “You’ve done well” (working title) and is currently in the final stage of planning. The pre-production stage is expected to begin in the first half of this year. The main characters will be played by Park Bo Gum and IU.

“You’ve done well” is a drama that depicts the adventure of Ae Soon, a rebellious girl, and Kwan Sik, a diligent but silent person, who were both born in Jeju in the 1950s. This drama is to pay tribute to their old days, when they were still young and enthusiastic through various stories, such as mom’s first love, dad’s battle experiences, grandmother’s rebellious days, and grandfather’s affectionate side, etc.

Park Bo Gum and IU will act alongside each other for the first time in a drama. Above all, a powerful dream team was completed as director Kim Won Seok, who gained recognition for his delicate directing skills through “Misaeng”, “Signal” and “My Mister”, will join hands with writer Lim Sang Chun. Since this is a drama by writer Lim Sang Chun, it is possible to attract such a splendid lineup with IU and Park Bo Gum.
