Child actor Suraj Sharma, who played Piscine Molitor “Pi” Patel (age 16~17), was cast with a competition rate of 3.000:1.
Originally, he was not interested in acting, but he accidentally followed his older brother to the audition for “Life of Pi” then got cast.
The scene where Suraj Sharma is with a tiger was embodied by CG, not a real tiger. When there was no actor, a real tiger was brought to the studio and filmed swimming.
