Lee Young Ji and Lee Do Hyun make donations instead of ice water “MZ generation changed Ice Bucket Challenge’s flow”
“MZ President” rapper Lee Young Ji led the change in the Ice Bucket Challenge with a huge donation.
On July 13th, Lee Young Ji revealed the donation certificate, saying, “I was pointed out by Mimi! There’s a way to donate instead of getting sprayed with water! So I donated.”
Lee Young Ji donated 10 million won to the Seungil Hope Foundation, a non-profit foundation for Lou Gehrig’s disease patients headed by Sean. Lee Young Ji said, “We need many people’s interest and support for the construction of Korea’s first Lou Gehrig Healthcare Hospital. I hope all Lou Gehrig Hospital’s patients and their families are sincerely healthy and happy.” She then pointed out Weki Meki Choi Yoo Jung, Lee Chae Yeon and LOONA Yves as the next challengers.
Lee Do Hyun, who was pointed out by IU, also donated 10 million won to the Seungil Hope Foundation. Lee Do Hyun said, “This time, singer IU selected me to participate in the 2023 Ice Bucket Challenge. The first Lou Gehrig Healthcare Hospital in Korea will be built. I sincerely cheer for Lou Gehrig’s disease patients and their families and hope that they can always be healthy and happy. If we gather our support one by one, it can become a great source of strength for the patients, so I hope everyone shows a lot of interest in the campaign.” He also named actresses Song Hye Kyo, Go Min Si and actor Kim Gun Woo as the next challengers.
The Ice Bucket Challenge is a campaign to attract public interest in Lou Gehrig’s disease patients and raise donations for the construction of Lou Gehrig’s disease healthcare hospital. This challenge started in the US in 2014 and spread around the world via SNS. Participants have 24 hours to accept the challenge. They can douse themselves with ice water or donate $100 to the foundation. Usually, participants upload a video of themselves being doused with ice water and point out the next three participants so that the challenge can continue.
In Korea, the Ice Bucket Challenge continued in 2014 and 2018 through Sean. Many Korean stars participated in the challenge, and most of them raised interest in Lou Gehrig’s disease with videos of them being bathed in ice water. However, MZs such as Lee Young Ji and Lee Do Hyun, who received the newly launched challenge this year, are leading the change in the challenge through huge donations instead of ice water.
