Actress Lee Young-ae takes on an emotionally intense role in KBS2’s upcoming weekend mini-series Walking on Thin Ice, which premieres on September 20. The drama follows Kang Eun-soo, a mother struggling to protect her family after her husband’s worsening illness and reckless investment failure push them to the brink of ruin.
In the story, Lee Young-ae plays Eun-soo, who suddenly finds herself at the edge of despair. Her husband, Park Do-jin (portrayed by Bae Soo-bin), once lived a modest but happy life as a bank employee with his wife and daughter. However, after being diagnosed with a terminal illness, Do-jin makes a risky investment in hopes of securing his family’s future—only to lose everything and drag them into financial collapse.
Their daughter, Park Soo-ah (played by Kim Si-ah), is depicted as a bright and loving child who always shared laughter with her parents. But faced with consecutive tragedies, Soo-ah must confront harsh realities far beyond her age.
Still cuts released on August 21 show the family’s once warm and ordinary morning. Eun-soo prepares a full breakfast for her husband and daughter, radiating domestic bliss. Yet, the discovery of a single letter shakes their lives to the core. Do-jin’s grim expression hints at looming tragedy, while Eun-soo’s desperate embrace of Soo-ah captures the fierce maternal instinct to protect her child at all costs.
