A’s eyes turned red when News1’s reporter met him in front of his house in Gangnam-gu, Seoul at 3 p.m. on December 27th. A is a neighbor of the late Lee Sun-kyun (48), who was found dead earlier in the day. “I feel like my own family has gone through something bad, so I couldn’t help my tears,” A said.
The late actors’ neighbors all looked sad when interviewed. “When I met Lee in the elevator two days ago and greeted him. His expressions looked very dark,” said B. “I also recently met him in the elevator and greeted him,” another neighbor said. “I was even more surprised to hear the news as we are neighbors.”
However, other residents generally declined to comment on Lee’s death. B said, “It’s not a good thing, so all the residents are hush-hush.” When the children living in this house showed interest in the reporters, the housing manager took the children in, saying, “It’s none of your business.”
Previously on the same day, police found Lee’s body near a park in Jongno-gu at around 10:30 a.m. after receiving a report that he left the house after writing a memo believed to be a suicide note.
Since October, Lee has been under police investigation for drug use. He has consistently denied the allegations, saying the only evidence related to his drug-taking charges was the statement made by a female manager at an adult entertainment establishment.
The drug investigation team of the Incheong Police Agency, which is in charge of investigating Lee’s death, explained that the drug investigation was not an unreasonable act. An official from the drug investigation team claimed, “At the time of the third investigation, there were no signs of him planning to make this extreme choice and his consent for the investigation was obtained, so it is not a coercive investigation.”
Lee’s mortuary has been set up at Seoul National University Hospital. Police are investigating the details of Lee’s alleged attempt to make this extreme choice.
