Lee Seung Gi expresses frustration over the controversy surrounding his wife Lee Da In’s family, “The embezzlement claim is groundless”

Lee Seung Gi corrected false information related to the stock price manipulation controversy related to his wife Lee Da In’s family.

On April 12th, singer-actor Lee Seung Gi posted a long statement on his Instagram. He said he was well awarer of the negative public opinion towards him due to the past of Lee Da In’s stepfather, who is now his father-in-law.

Lee Seung Gi explained, “When I donated the entire unpaid settlement of 5 billion won (before taxes) that I received from my former agency in December of last year, I received overwhelming praise from the public. They gave me lots of support and courage.”

He continued, “I felt like I was living in praise for about two months. After I announced my marriage to my wife Lee Da In, the atmosphere changed. However, it didn’t matter to me. Donations and good deeds are separate things from marriage. I didn’t donate to gain public support.”

“I always believe that the public is right. If the public dislikes something, there must be a reason”, he said. Lee Seung Gi then mentioned Lee Da-in’s family, saying, “But sometimes I feel unfair, for example, when the public has some misunderstandings”.

Lee Hong Heon, the husband of actress Kyeon Mi Ri and the stepfather of Lee Da In, was sentenced to three years in prison on charges of manipulating stock prices in 2011 and released in 2014. However, in 2016, it was revealed that he had no connection to the stock manipulation case and was never prosecuted for it.

Referring to the incident in 2016, Lee Seung Gi emphasized, “He embezzled 26 billion won through stock manipulation and made 300,000 victims suffer? This is obviously false information”.

The actor then announced that he had filed a complaint with the Press Arbitration Commission against five media outlets that reported the news, saying “I didn’t know where some journalists and YouTubers had gathered their information but it is absolutely groundless”.

Mentioning the names of the reporters who wrote articles without fact-checking, Lee Seung Gi said, “I wish they had called our company to confirm the information before reporting it on news” expressing his disappointment.
