Set to air next month on tvN, Nice to Not Meet You tells the story of a once-beloved national actor and a displaced journalist who overcome prejudice and build an unexpected romance. Lee Jung Jae plays top star Im Hyun Joon, while Lim Ji Yeon portrays Wi Jung Shin, a political reporter reassigned to the entertainment desk.

On August 31, the cast filmed scenes at Jamsil Baseball Stadium during the LG Twins vs. Kiwoom Heroes game. From 5:20 to 5:40 PM, production crews occupied both the field and the stands, with a scoreboard notice asking fans for understanding. Lee Jung Jae even threw the ceremonial first pitch after filming wrapped.

However, many fans expressed frustration. One attendee shared, “I came early to watch the players warm up, but it was so chaotic because of the drama shoot. I even tried to avoid the cameras, worried my face might be filmed.” Clips of players being disrupted during warm-ups also fueled online criticism, with comments such as, “Their routines were broken,” and “Because of the shoot, the team lost today.”

In response, the production team emphasized that filming times, content, and staff access had been fully coordinated with the baseball club in advance. They also assured that audience members’ faces would be blurred or edited out to protect privacy.

This isn’t the first hurdle for Nice to Not Meet You. The casting announcement previously sparked heated debate about the large age gap between the leads, with some netizens claiming it would hurt immersion. Others criticized the drama for relying on an overused “showbiz romance” theme.

Culture critic Kim Heon-sik noted, “Casting alone doesn’t guarantee success anymore. Even if the actors are popular, if the story lacks depth, viewers won’t watch. The drama must move beyond a surface-level entertainment romance and explore real struggles, growth, and healing to resonate with audiences.”
