“She bullies me so much, I started to wonder if that’s why I got cast,” joked Lee Jung Jae during the press conference for tvN’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama Nice to Not Meet You, which was held online on October 28.

The event was attended by director Kim Ga Ram, as well as cast members Lee Jung Jae, Lim Ji Yeon, Kim Ji Hoon, and Seo Ji Hye.

Nice to Not Meet You is a drama that centers around a fall-from-grace national actor and an entertainment journalist obsessed with justice. It promises a fierce battle of wit, explosive facts, and a journey of breaking down prejudice.

In the drama, Lee Jung Jae portrays Lim Hyun Joon, a top star trapped in his image as a righteous detective, while Lim Ji Yeon plays Wi Jung Shin, a relentless journalist formerly from the political desk. Kim Ji Hoon takes on the role of Lee Jae Hyung, a former major league baseball player turned sports agency CEO, and Seo Ji Hye plays Yoon Hwa Young, the head of the entertainment department and Jae Hyung’s ex-girlfriend.

When asked about their chemistry, Lee Jung Jae revealed, “We bicker a lot on set. Sometimes I wonder if Lim Ji Yeon was cast just to torment me. When I ask her why she’s so harsh, she just says, ‘It’s fun!’ That’s when I realized maybe I was chosen for her entertainment.”

Lim Ji Yeon responded with laughter, revealing that she had recommended the project to Lee Jung Jae, “The script was hilarious, and Lee Jung Jae immediately came to mind. So I shyly texted him, hoping we could work together. But I swear I didn’t ‘target’ him!”

Interestingly, the two are also connected professionally, with Lee Jung Jae being the co-CEO of Artist Company, the agency Lim Ji Yeon is signed to.

Lim Ji Yeon also commented on the cathartic experience of delivering “fact bombs” to Lee Jung Jae in the drama, saying, “It’s oddly satisfying. Whatever I throw at him, he handles it. Our chemistry feels real because of that.”

To this, Lee Jung Jae playfully added, “She throws those lines at me like missiles. I could fire back, but I hold back because I don’t want to ruin the mood on set.”

Notably, the two actors have an 18-year age gap, but Lee Jung Jae jokingly dismissed its importance, saying, “It’s not about overcoming the age gap. She still bullies me despite it! She was okay at first, but it’s getting worse.”

Lim Ji Yeon lightened the mood by saying, “He’s more comfortable to work with than actors my age,” to which Lee Jung Jae quipped, “Of course it’s comfortable when you’re doing whatever you want!”

Nice to Not Meet You premieres on November 3 at 8:50 p.m. KST.
