Lee Jung-jae cast as the male lead in new “Star Wars” series… Work with 24-year-old African-American actress

Actor Lee Jung-jae will meet global viewers once again as he has been cast as the male lead in Disney+’s new “Star Wars” series.

On the morning of Sep 8th (local time), American entertainment media outlets such as The Hollywood Reporter reported, “‘Squid Game‘ star Lee Jung-jae has been cast as the male lead in Disney+’s new ‘Star Wars’ series, ‘The Acolyte’.”

This is the first overseas project in which Lee Jung-jae, who became a global star, appears as the lead actor.

The female lead is actress Amandla Stenberg, who starred in “Dear Evan Hansen” (2021), “The Darkest Minds” (2018), “Where Hands Touch” (2018), “Everything, Everything” (2017) and “As You Are (2016)”.

Amandla Stenberg (born in 1998) is an African-American and 24 years old this year. She is striving to improve race and women’s rights, and was included in Time’s list of Most Influential Teens in both 2015 and 2016.

Jodie Turner-Smith of the films “After Yang” (2022) and “Queen & Slim” (2019) has also been cast. Jodie was born in 1986.

The new series “The Acolyte” is an action mystery-thriller that tells the story of 100 years ago of “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace” (1999) among “Star Wars” series. Writer-director Leslye Headland will participate as the executive producer and writer of “The Acolyte”. The series will consist of a total of 8 episodes.

It is currently scheduled to be released on Disney+ around Aug 11th, 2023.

Earlier, “Star Wars” introduced through Twitter, “‘The Acolyte’ is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”

Meanwhile, Lee Jung-jae and Jung Ho-yeon were named side by side on the first list of presenters for the 74th Emmy Awards to be held on Sep 12th (local time). The two were nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, respectively. Lee Jung-jae departed through Incheon International Airport on Sep 8th, and Jung Ho-yeon will attend the awards ceremony after finishing her overseas schedule.

In addition, Oh Young-soo and Park Hae-soo were nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Lee Yoo-mi, who was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series, won the trophy.
