Lee Do Hyun initially refuses the role Joo Yeo Jeong in “The Glory”

For a young and emerging actor like Lee Do Hyun with scarce resources and low recognition in the industry, receiving an offer from a director or scriptwriter is a rare opportunity. However, when it came to an offer to appear on “The Glory,” Do Hyun actually turned down and had to be persuaded by the screenwriter of the drama series Kim Eun Sook to actually take up the part.

According to Kim Eun Sook, there were some reasons that led her to believe that Lee Do Hyun was fit for the role. Fans speculated it might have been because of his previous performances (as Hwang Hee Tae in “Youth of May” at the time) or of connections with the character in the script. Nonetheless, the writer was determined to get him into the crew: “When I met Lee Do Hyun and offered him the role, he said, ‘Writer, I still don’t know why this script comes to me and why people like me. I’m very scared of that moment.’”

When Lee Do Hyun was reluctant, Kim Eun Sook affirmed: “It might be easier to get away using me as an excuse. I remember convincing him to do it well.”

In response to the offer, the “18 Again” star only humbly replied: “Kim Eun Sook is known for producing world class works and I wasn’t sure I could give justice to Joo Yeo Jeong. I was really afraid.”

It seems, for Lee Do Hyun, his role in “The Glory” was a big risk for an actor with little confidence to pull off the role. Nonetheless, he went on with the gamble and won an even bigger gain. At the time, to take the role of Joo Yeo Jeong, Lee Do Hyun had to turn down another Netflix’s drama series “Bloodhounds” that he was researching on at the time.
