Lee A Jin explains controversy over her sexual harassment remarks targetting fellow actress
Actress Lee A Jin made a long SNS post to clarify misunderstandings in the recent controversy related to her
On September 6th, a post titled, “The incident in which Kim Hieora and Lee A Jin sexually harassed a fellow actress”, spread in various online communities, including theqoo.
According to the post, unmarried actress A, who had never dated publicly or announced her marriage, turned on an Instagram live broadcast to communicate with her fans. Kim Hieora and Lee A Jin then left questions, such as “When will you get pregnant?”, “Are you going to get pregnant in 2024?”, etc. through the Q&A function on Instagram Story. Many netizens believed that such comments were considered sexual harassment and criticized the two actresses.
As the controversy intensified amid Kim Hieora’s school violence scandal, Lee A Jin released a statement on the 7th, saying “I’m writing this post to explain the controversy related to me”.
Lee A Jin explained, “In 2021, I met with some friends to congratulate colleague B on their marriage and talked about their plan of having children”, adding “Therefore, all the people at the gathering naturally discussed about such topics. A expressed her desire to have a happy family like B and added that it would be great to have a child three years later, around 2024”.
She continued, “A few days later, A opened Q&A on Instagram and I thought only A could see the questions so I asked about her plan of getting pregnant and having children in 2024. I actually received an answer from A through a private message”, adding “Neither A nor I knew that all the live broadcast viewers could see the questions”
The actress emphasized, “If you only look at the question without knowing the context, you may misunderstand it. I’m sorry for not mentioning private matters without realizing that it was a public space. However, I never intended to hurt A”.
Before ending her long message, Lee A Jin said, “I will act more cautiously to avoid such misunderstandings in the future.”
Known as the daughter of musical actor Lee Jung Yeol, Lee A Jin is doing well in various fields, including musicals, theater plays, and dramas.
Debuting as a child actress in 2006, Lee A Jin is now taking the stage of big musical works. She further made her face and name known to the public after starring in tvN’s drama “Crash Course in Romance” and JTBC’s “The Good Bad Mother” with a supporting role and a cameo appearance.
