LE SSERAFIM’s Kim Chae-won & Sakura Criticized For Revealing Their Waist Sizes

Kim Chae-won and Sakura of LE SSERAFIM guested on the February 24th broadcast of MBC’s entertainment program “Omniscient Interfering View”. When asked about their waist sizes, the two surprised the cast and viewers by revealing that their waist size was 17 inches. 

After the broadcast, a heated debate over the two idols’ small waist size was raised in online communities. Surprised to know how skinny idols are, some netizens even expressed discomfort over the question about waist sizes.

Amid recent criticism over the harmful effects of excessive admiration for skinny bodies, such as “idol body” and “idol diet”, on young people, especially teenagers, many people raised concern over the negative influence of Kim Chae-won and Sakura’s remarks on their teenage fans.

Several netizens commented, “I don’t know why people ask idols about their waist sizes on entertainment programs”, “It may have a bad influence on teenagers”, “Don’t ask idols about their waist sizes on shows”, “The two wouldn’t have revealed it if the broadcasters hadn’t asked in the first place”, “They shouldn’t have mentioned the number”, “I can’t believe people are still asking such a question these days”, etc.
