In the evening of September 17, a topic titled “The reason LE SSERAFIM doesn’t wear Hanbok” was published on the Korean forum Pann Nate, becoming viral with over 119,000 views within half a day.
Particularly, the author of the topic pointed out that during Chuseok Holiday (Mid-autumn Festival, the biggest holiday in Korea), various girl groups release photoshoots wearing Hanbok, with the exception of LE SSERAFIM.
As Hanbok is a national pride, the allegation that a popular K-pop group like LE SSERAFIM “avoid” it draws criticisms. However, there are some netizens that stand with LE SSERAFIM, saying that this is a small matter and should not evoke heavy criticisms.
Below are some comment from netizens:
- They are a Japanese idol group, so there’s no need to wear Hanbok (likely referring to Japanese members Sakura and Kazuha, along with several Japanese-related controversies of LE SSERAFIM)
- Just wear a kimono or something, no one will see you as a Korean idol
- Even international group like KATSEYE uploaded a Chuseok greeting video wearing Hanbok?? Wow, I really don’t understand why (LE SSERAFIM) is like this
- Why are people reacting aggressively to this… They can wear what they want
- aespa didn’t wear Hanbok for Chuseok either?
- Overreacting again… This is why foreigners hate K-pop fans so much
