On Sep 17th, the YouTube channel “The KStarNextDoor” released a video featuring Hwasa.
In the video, Hwasa talked about her nickname “Gangster Wife”. She said, “At the time, even if you say ‘Hey’, they’d call you a gangster wife. Even if you get angry just a bit, they’d say, ‘She’s a gangster wife.’ When boys were mean to girls, I was the one to step forward and stop them. I also have two older sisters. They’re quite a handful. I’m sure their nicknames in elementary school were gangster wives. I’ve never lost to anyone. But one time, the boy beat me quite a lot while fighting. I guess my sister got upset. She came to my class and said, ‘Who beat my sister? Come out.’ That friend got beat up pretty badly.“
Hwasa then shared a story from her trainee days, saying, “I weighed 60kg when I was a trainee. My boss told me to lose weight down to 48kg. I did my best and reduced it down to 49kg. Yet he still wanted to fire me. So I got upset at my boss.”
She continued, “After a bout with him, I wrote a song about my feelings. The title was ‘My Heart’. What my boss expected to see was an apology. He got ‘My Heart’. ‘She’s not the one to mess with.’ ‘She’s completely nuts.’ He actually liked me more after that. In a way, it’s not easy for a female idol trainee to say that. I had this in mind. I didn’t think it’d be so hard. I thought it’d be cool to try this.”
Later, Jonathan brought up the viral “airport thief” meme featuring Hwasa. Surprised, Hwasa said, “I didn’t expect to see that here. That’s mean. That’s just wrong.” She explained, “I did that on ‘SNL’. I didn’t do it for money. I did it because it looked fun. I regret it so much. And that was filmed when I had Norovirus. I look haggard.“
