Latest episode of “King the Land”: An hour of contentless drama

“King the Land”’s new episode is being described as having nothing but “an hour of contentless drama” by Korean media.

On the July 16th episode of JTBC’s “King the Land”, characters Gu Won (played by Lee Jun Ho), Cheon Sa Rang (played by Im Yoona), Oh Pyeong Hwa (played by Go Won Hee), Kang Da Eul (played by Kim Ga Eun), and Noh Sang Sik (played by Ahn Se Ha) were shown going on a reward vacation to Thailand.

In this episode, Gu Won and Cheon Sa Rang enjoyed their secret romance, whilst hiding it from their friends. They had romantic moments, such as meeting in the swimming pool to spend private time together. In addition, at the end of the episode, Gu Won confessed his love to Cheon Sa Rang, raising the romance factor.

The secret romance between Gu Won and Cheon Sa Rang, as well as their love confessions to each other, created excitement. However, there’s nothing else notable, as viewers had to watch an hour of contentless drama before witnessing any significant progress in the relationship between the two characters.

In particular, the episode continuously features the scenery of Thailand and the five characters posing for pictures at various tourist attractions. Viewers had to endure repetitive scenes of visiting tourist spots, having meals, and going sightseeing, which became boring as time went on. While audiences expected interesting stories to unfold at the travel destinations, what they got resembled the actors’ travelog in Thailand or a promotional video for Thai tourism.

The lack of substance in the story made viewers lose interest. Even the skinship scenes between Gu Won and Cheon Sa Rang, intended to evoke excitement, became dull. The repeated kissing scenes and focus on tourism led to disappointment.

“King the Land” may have achieved impressive ratings of over 10%, but if the drama continues with its weak storyline and lack of coherence, viewership for the remaining six episodes will likely suffer. As of the moment, Lee Jun Ho and Im Yoona’s exceptional chemistry is the only element that keeps the viewers engaged.
