On June 5, former AOA member Kwon Mina shared a lengthy message on social media, thanking fans who had expressed concern about her condition and providing an update on her recovery.
Mina revealed photos of her current skin condition and explained that while she has seen significant improvement since the incident occurred in January, her recovery has recently slowed, leaving her feeling anxious about the future. “I’m receiving consistent treatment at a specialized hospital, and my condition has improved considerably compared to January. However, the recovery process has slowed recently, and to be honest, I’m very scared,” she wrote.
According to Kwon Mina, the injury occurred during a Shrink laser treatment in January. She said the incident caused severe pain and required ongoing medical care. Initially, doctors reportedly informed her that she might need skin graft surgery and up to two years of treatment. While her condition has improved, she now expects to undergo at least another year of treatment, and the possibility of permanent scarring has not been completely ruled out.
The former idol also addressed reports that she received nearly 20 million KRW (approximately $14,000 USD) in compensation from the physician involved. Kwon Mina stressed that the payment was not given without justification, explaining that she submitted medical records and detailed receipts to receive support for treatment costs and damages related to the injury.
She further claimed that the clinic stopped providing financial assistance for future treatment after March and sought legal action instead. As a result, she says she is currently covering all medical expenses herself.
Kwon Mina also revealed that the injury affected her professional activities. She stated that she was unable to complete previously signed filming and advertising projects, resulting in losses of approximately 74 million KRW in earnings. She added that there were additional potential contracts worth around 20 to 30 million KRW that were never finalized because of her condition.

The singer further alleged that she attempted to reach a settlement with the doctor but was instead accused of making threats. Expressing her frustration, she wrote, “The director may be having a difficult time as well, but how do you think I feel when my life changed completely overnight?”
Kwon Mina concluded by explaining that she had remained silent for months out of concern that speaking publicly could negatively affect her legal position. However, she said she could no longer stay quiet as the prolonged recovery and ongoing dispute continue to weigh heavily on her.
The former AOA member is currently focused on her treatment and recovery while the dispute surrounding the incident remains unresolved.
