Kris Wu, who used to be one of the most famous singers in China, finally stood trial
On June 10, 2022, the People’s Court of Chaoyang District, Beijing revealed that Kris Wu finally stood trial that day for charges of rape and assembling a crowd to engage in promiscuous activities.
According to a news release from the Beijing High People’s Court, the Chaoyang District People’s Court did not hear the case openly due to victims’ privacy concerns. In addition, the ruling will be given at a later date.
The full timeline of Kris Wu’s scandal is as follows:
- At 10 p.m. on December 5, 2020: Under the pretext of finding a female lead for a new MV, a person surnamed Feng (female, 28 years old, this time is Kris Wu’s legal broker representative) invited Ms. Du (18 years old) to attend a party at Mr. Wu’s house. More than 10 people attending the party played cards and drank alcohol.
- From 0:00 to about 7:00 a.m. on December 6, 2020: Party participants fade away. The party ended. Ms. Du and Mr. Wu slept together at his house
- December 8, 2020: Mr. Wu sends 32,000 yuan to Ms. Du for online shopping.
- From then to April 2021: The two sides maintain a relationship via Weibo.
- June 2021: Ms. Du and her friend Liu (female, 19 years old) publicized their relationship with Mr. Wu through SNS, starting to become famous.
- July 13, 2021: Online blogger Mr. Xu (male, 31 years old) contacts Ms. Du to devise a plan. After that, he wrote 10 Weibo posts, thereby benefiting himself.
- July 14, 2021: Wu’s mother reported to the Beijing police that Du was trying to blackmail them
- July 18, 2021: Suspect Liu (Male, 23 years old) was arrested. According to the investigation, in June 2021, the suspect saw the news of Ms. Du and Mr. Wu, so he began intending to defraud individuals related to the two sides. Liu confessed his entire plot.
- July 31, 2021: Wu (male, 30 years old, Canadian nationality) – a suspect of rape, was detained by the Beijing police following the law.
- August 1, 2021: Weibo accounts of Kris Wu and his studio were deleted.
- August 2, 2021: The management agency Weibo announced that the male star’s incident was not even suitable for discussion, thereby disbanding 133 offending chat groups, and banning 503 accounts.
- August 16, 2021: Chaoyang Procuratorate (Beijing) announced the arrest of suspect Wu in accordance with the law.
- June 10, 2022: Announcing a non-public hearing. It is expected that the Law Authority will choose the time of publication according to regulations.
Meanwhile, Under China’s Criminal Law, the crime of rape usually receives a jail term of between three and 10 years. Convicts may face extended prison sentences or perhaps the death penalty in exceptional cases. Besides, according to the Criminal Law, offenders who gather a gathering to participate in promiscuous actions normally get a term of no more than five years.
