Korean Viewers Complain About Park Seo-joon’s Short Screen Time In “The Marvels”

Various viewers expressed disappointment in Park Seo-joon’s screen time and character setting in “The Marvels”

Released on November 8th, “The Marvels” is the third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Phase 5. It depicts the story when ‘Captain Marvel’ Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), who protects space, gets into trouble as she swaps her position with Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) whenever she uses her power.

Known as Park Seo-joon’s Hollywood debut, the movie aroused hot topics even before its release.  In this movie, Park Seo-joon plays Prince Yan, the charismatic prince of the planet Aladna where people communicate with songs.

On the premiere day, many fans visited the theater to see Park Seo-joon’s performance as Prince Yan. The actor appeared on the screen less than an hour after the movie began.

Yan previously married Captain Marvel. Since songs are their language, Yan began dancing as soon as he saw his wife after a long time and they asked for each other’s whereabouts through songs.

Park Seo-joon captivated viewers with his visual as a prince, colorful costumes with dark makeup as well as singing and dancing performances. Some viewers reviewed that it was like watching a scene from a Bollywood movie.

Later, Park Seo-joon showed up in a battle and saved Ms. Marvel. Despite his little screen time, the actor still successfully proved his intense presence.

However, some fans figured out that the actor appeared for only about 2 minutes and 40 seconds in total and expressed regrets.

In response, movie fans commented, “I’m sad that his screen time is even shorter than a K-pop song”, “I can’t believe that they cast a top Korean actor but give him too little screen time”, “It should be at least 5 minutes”, “The screen time and character are so K-pop”, etc.

Meanwhile, “The Marvels” received 8.43 points on Naver in terms of audience rating on the day of its premiere and 4.7 points as of 2 p.m. on the following day.
