Korean Professor Urges Action Against Illegal Viewing of “Exhuma” in China
Professor Seo Kyung-duk from Sungshin Women's University addressed the illegal viewing of the recently released movie "Exhuma" in China
On the Chinese content review site Douban, review pages for “Exhuma” have already been created, with over 650 reviews currently posted.
Professor Seo remarked, “Illegal distribution of Korean content has become commonplace in China. But what’s even more astonishing is the lack of shame felt about it.”
He added, “Amidst this, some Chinese netizens are trapped in feelings of inferiority and are unleashing baseless criticisms through their social media accounts like X (formerly Twitter) and Weibo.”
In particular, he emphasized, “Now is the time for Chinese authorities to intervene,” citing the example of the strict crackdown during the Beijing Winter Olympics to protect the intellectual property rights and prevent illegal distribution of the Olympic mascot Bing Dwen.
Professor Seo pointed out, “Chinese authorities are not unaware of this. They’ve turned a blind eye to the stolen viewing of Korean content knowingly all this time.”
He also stressed, “Chinese authorities must recognize the need to respect other countries’ cultures and demonstrate it through actions.”
Professor Seo added, “We should not only focus on creating good content, but also prioritize establishing systems that can be protected worldwide.”
