Korean netizens react to NewJeans Hanni being criticized by Vietnamese fans due to her family background
NewJeans Hanni’s family background recently sparked controversies, causing the female idol to be harshly criticized by fans in her origin country.
Netizens in Vietnam currently led by the Communist Party of Vietnam recently posted tweets exposing Hanni’s family, which consists of members who support the Republic of Vietnam (a party that is against the current government in Vietnam), and her nationality.
Vietnamese netizens said, “I hope Hanni will be removed from NewJeans”, “Hanni’s parents are Vietnamese but they immigrated to Australia and are currently anti-communists. Hanni can’t even speak Vietnamese well because she was born in Australia”, “Hanni should follow the Communist Party of Vietnam”, etc.
In response to the controversy, Korean netizens reacted, “Why are they considered anti-communist just because they moved to live in another country?”, “I only hear NewJeans songs when I come to Vietnam”, “Why are they saying Hanni can’t speak Vietnamese? There’s a video of her speaking Vietnamese to fans at an online fancall”, “They’re from the same country, why aren’t the people supporting her?”, etc.
Meanwhile, NewJeans’s agency ADOR released a firm statement, saying “We’ve begun taking legal action against defamation, insult, false information, and slander related to NewJeans”. ADOR is a sublabel of HYBE established by HYBE CBO Min Hee Jin in 2021. In addition to ADOR, HYBE also owns Source Music, Pledis, etc., and recently acquired 14.8% in SM Entertainment shares from Lee Soo Man.
