“Taekwondo in Chinese dramas?” Korean netizens accuse Chinese dramas of stealing Taekwondo

Many Korean netizens pointed out that there are many scenes of taekwondo appearing in recent Chinese dramas.

Recently, Korean netizens have been questioning the frequent appearance of Korea’s unique form of martial art, Taekwondo, in Chinese dramas.

Netizen A shared a post titled “Why are there so many Taekwondo references in Chinese dramas these days?” on a Korean online community.

A said, “Are they trying to insist that Taekwondo is theirs again? I’m just watching actor Chen Feiyu’s new drama and I’m dumbfounded when he mentions Taekwondo out of nowhere.

Netizen B said, “I don’t know why Taekwondo comes out so much when I watch Chinese dramas these days.”

B expressed curiosity, saying, “Before, the Chinese made taekwondo players into villains in their dramas, but these days, there are a lot of taekwondo teachers.”

B added, “Usually, when you see a Taekwondo gym in foreign dramas, there is Korea’s national flag (TaeGukKi) hung there, but these guys (in Chinese dramas) don’t even have a TaeGukKi mark on their uniforms.”

B expressed the same opinion as A, saying, “They are trying to claim that Taekwondo is theirs, too.”

Many other Korean dramas also said that Taekwondo has definitely been mentioned more in Chinese dramas these days.
