Korean moms thinks Korea’s first gay dating variety show might have bad influence on their children

There is a backlash against the LGBT variety show “Other’s Love” on an online mom-cafe (an online community for Korean moms) in Gyeonggi Province.

On July 11th, a post titled “Homosexual and gay dating variety show starts broadcasting” was posted on the online mom cafe.

The writer expressed uncomfortable feelings about the show, saying, “Please call Wavve (the streaming platform) to oppose the broadcast of “Other’s Love.”

“If we stay still, our children might try to be homosexual out of curiosity,” she said. “It’s time to gather, just by making a precious phone call.”

The mother then argued that “gay is not innate, and it is sexual addiction that falls into sexual pleasure through acquired experience.”

In addition, she added, “It causes not only mental illness but also various physical diseases. It is not a concept of human rights that should be respected or protected,” she said.

Other netizens left a number of comments saying, “I called to oppose.” Netizens also said, “I hate it so much as a mother raising children. I don’t know how it will affect my children either.” “We shouldn’t discriminate. But encouraging same-sex love is bad. It can still be glorified by young children,” and a netizen voiced concern, saying, “The broadcast will be exposed in any way, but just watching it for a short time alone makes the (children’s) judgment cloudy and confusing.”

However, while opposing the homosexual program, one netizen refuted the post’s claim, saying, “It has not been revealed that homosexuality is sexual addiction caused by acquired sexual pleasure.”

Amid the controversy, one netizen released a captured photo, saying it was the official position of Wavve. Wavve said, “There may be a variety of ways to view LGBTQ, but we ask for your understanding that we will focus on showing their lives as they are through the reality genre in order to respect and understand diversity.”
