Korean Media Pointed Out The Reasons For The Poor Ratings Of “NANA TOUR with SEVENTEEN”

Producer Na Young-seok‘s new tvN program ‘NANA TOUR with SEVENTEEN‘ (hereinafter as “Nana Tour”) is a project with idol group SEVENTEEN, in which SEVENTEEN shows the charm of its members during a trip to Italy.

However, “Nana Tour” has rarely received attention since its first broadcast. It started with 2% ratings and continued to decline to 1.9% ratings. Although the charms of the members are revealed through the broadcast, it seems that they have failed to solve the “popularity among the public” problem, which was a concern even before the broadcast.

“Nana Tour” contains travel memories made with SEVENTEEN members throughout the show. Producer Na Young-seok re-used the games he made in “The Game Cater” in Italy. It was not much different from the variety programs that were released so far, the only difference is that SEVENTEEN members are the main cast. However, they did not seem to have overcome this limitation properly as they started the show amid concerns that it would be seen as just another idol group entertainment program for fans.

Producer Na Young-seok said at a press conference, “I wanted to make a program about idols who have made achievements worldwide since the K-pop and idol markets became globalized,” adding, “If we start such a program, we think it should be with SEVENTEEN.” We also have no intention of making a program that only fans can watch. The barriers to entry are not big, either. Young people would think that they are enjoying their trip.” After “Nana Tour” was aired on tvN, people can watch the full version of the program for two hours on Weverse, expanding the content for fans.

Although it is a new attempt, it has been confirmed that the public’s perception of idol entertainment shows is still low. The previous work of this talented producers, “GBRB: Rep What You Saw,” had a ratings of around 5% with actors such as Lee Kwang-soo, Kim Woo-bin, Do Kyung-soo, and Kim Ki-bang, while “Jinny’s Kitchen” has attracted viewers’ attention with a cast including Lee Seo-jin, Park Seo-joon, Jung Yu-mi, Choi Woo-sik and BTS’s V, achieving 9.3% ratings.

“Nana Tour” is now only one episode away, and a dramatic rebound in ratings is unlikely. It is questionable whether producer Na Young-seok will be able to continue his collaboration with idol groups and gain popularity for his next shows.
