After the “verbal abuse” incident, Irene is believed to be secretly boycotted by the entertainment industry
Irene (Red Velvet) is one of the most popular beauties of KPOP’s 3rd generation. She used to be sought after by many magazines and brands. No one would have expected the career of this top goddess would fall because of a big scandal. In October 2020, she got into a serious controversy over insulting a stylist for 20 minutes, causing serious damage to her image. The female idol was also boycotted by numerous brands and fans.
However, that is not the only loss for her. Recently, Sports Khan suspected that Irene was secretly boycotted in showbiz because of her attitude scandal. During the whole year of 2021, Irene only had comeback activities with Red Velvet and absolutely no personal schedule while the other members were busy filming, guesting on shows, taking photos for magazines. Two of the members were even chosen by SM to enter the project group Girls On Top’s A-list lineup. This sparked rumors that Irene is being discriminated against compared to Seulgi, Wendy, Joy, and Yeri.
Sports Khan commented that this is a sad situation for Irene. Brands which once longed for her appearance in their CFs all withdrew after the attitude scandal. The last public schedule that Irene participated in was SBS Power FM’s radio program “Wendy’s Young Street” in August 2021. However, this is not a solo schedule. This program is hosted by Wendy herself and Irene and Red Velvet members came to promote the album “Queendom.”
During the online concert SM Town Live on January 1, the idol appeared with a worrisome face. At that time, Irene shared that the group would have many activities this year.
So far, SM Entertainment has confirmed that Red Velvet will make a comeback in March, so people are more looking forward to the group’s activities in general and Irene’s in particular. If Irene continues to have no solo schedule, the theory that she is “boycotted” because of her attitude scandal is completely valid.
