Koo Jun-yup revealed his love story with Barbie Hsu, from their breakup to getting back together
Koo Jun-yup and Barbie Hsu’s love story was told on “You Quiz on the Block”.
In the latest episode of tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” broadcast on June 22nd, as a special feature of “This is a true story”, the romance between DJ Koo Jun-yup and Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, who met again after 20 years and fell in love, was unveiled.
MC Yoo Jae-suk said, “In a way, we filmed at this place because of this person,” and explained why the filming of “You Quiz” that day took place at a wedding venue. He then made a groom introduction and guest Koo Jun-yup came out. Koo Jun-yup said happily, “I got married“.
Yoo Jae-suk exclaimed, “How in the world exists such true love“, and Koo Jun-yup said, “I think I’m the happiest person in the world right now.” Yoo Jae-suk responded, “I didn’t know I could hear these words from you.”
20 years ago, Koo Jun-yup was active in Taiwan as a member of CLON and Barbie Hsu was a high-teen star at that time. The two actually dated but broke up after a year. For the past 20 years, both of them worked hard in their own field. Koo Jun-yup called the number that Barbie Hsu used 20 years ago and luckily, Barbie Hsu was still using the it. They met again for the first time in 20 years and eventually got married.
Koo Jun-yup said, “I like mangoes. Barbie Hsu really liked mangoes. It was hard to find mangoes in Korea but whenever I saw them, I thought of Barbie Hsu”, adding, “When we were still dating, I once wore a wig and went to Taiwan”, drawing laughter.
Koo Jun-yup said, “People around me told me to stop because it would be hard for me to focus on my work if I had a girlfriend”. Yoo Jae-seok then said, “I searched and watched the stage of CLON on Youtube. It was so cool. What a legend. I think they would have said that because you were really famous and there would be many works to do. One person was in Taiwan and the other was in Korea so they were just thinking for you realistically. Handle it. I think you’ve heard that a lot.”
Koo Jun-yup, who deeply sympathized with Yoo Jae-suk’s words, said, “I remember the day we broke up. We hugged each other and cried all night. She took me to the airport. I think it was hard for me to handle. I could handle it, but I felt like a fool.“
Koo Jun-yup showed happy tears as he recalled how he called Barbie Hsu after hearing the news of her divorce, decided to get married, went to Taiwan and met Barbie Hsu again. Koo Jun-yup said, “Barbie Hsu doesn’t like it when I say sorry. She tells me, ‘You couldn’t help it either.’ Compared to me, Barbie Hsu is much deeper. She’s much better than I am.”
Yoo Jae-suk asked, “I heard that Barbie Hsu shed tears during a live broadcast.” Koo Jun-yup replied, “I saw that video. At that time, I cried when I saw the interpreted video. I felt like Barbie Hsu was trying to cover and carry me alone. I was very moved by that.”
