According to a report by Taiwanese media outlet ETtoday on July 22, late Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu and her husband Koo Jun-yup had been making plans to relocate to South Korea before her passing, though the move was reportedly opposed by both her mother and her ex-husband.

Citing an insider, the report claimed that Koo Jun-yup wanted to move to Korea with Barbie Hsu and her two children because she had been under immense stress from ongoing disputes with her ex-husband, Wang Xiaofei, who allegedly continued to create conflicts after their divorce.

To prepare for the relocation, Barbie Hsu had reportedly already transferred assets worth around NT$10 million (approximately US$340,000) to South Korea. However, her mother, Huang Chun-mei, was said to have strongly opposed the plan. According to the report, Barbie Hsu even considered transferring ownership of her luxury apartment to her mother in an effort to persuade her.

The report further claimed that Barbie Hsu had asked her mother to return funds that were under her mother’s management so she could use them while living in Korea, but her mother refused. The disagreement allegedly led to multiple family conflicts.

It was also reported that about a month before Barbie Hsu’s death, Wang Xiaofei’s legal team learned that she had been actively preparing to move to South Korea with her family. Wang reportedly became anxious after hearing the news and attempted to contact Barbie Hsu to discuss the matter, but the two were no longer communicating directly, and Barbie Hsu’s side allegedly declined further contact.

The relocation plans were ultimately abandoned after Barbie Hsu unexpectedly passed away during a trip to Japan.

Barbie Hsu married Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei in 2011, and the couple had one son and one daughter before divorcing in 2021. In 2022, she reunited with and married Koo Jun-yup, whom she had dated more than 20 years earlier. She passed away in February 2025 while traveling in Japan after developing acute pneumonia caused by influenza.

Barbie Hsu reportedly left behind an estate estimated at around ₩120 billion (approximately US$87 million). Her inheritance is expected to be divided equally among Koo Jun-yup and her two children. Wang Xiaofei has also reportedly petitioned the court to appoint a special legal representative to protect the children’s interests during the inheritance proceedings.
