KARA member Heo Young Ji has opened up for the first time about enduring seven years of harassment from an alleged stalker, sharing the shocking experience during a recent television appearance.
The singer made the revelation on the July 19 episode of MBN and SBS Plus’s I Met a Psychopath. The episode, titled “Why Did You Come to My House?”, examined real-life crimes involving home invasions, stalking, hidden cameras, and scams targeting vulnerable individuals.
During the broadcast, Heo Young Ji and Super Junior member Kyuhyun shared frightening personal experiences with obsessive fans. Kyuhyun recalled that while living in the Super Junior dormitory, a fan once hid inside a fire safety cabinet in the apartment hallway in an attempt to gain access to the members’ residence.
Heo Young Ji then revealed that she had been stalked by the same individual for seven years. According to the idol, the alleged stalker not only followed her but also repeatedly visited her family’s café. The individual reportedly tracked down her family’s vehicle license plate numbers and even obtained the phone numbers of her relatives.
The situation became even more alarming when Heo Young Ji received a letter containing a disturbing message. “I want to kill everyone who is jealous of you.” Her revelation left the studio audience and fellow guests visibly shocked.
In addition to the celebrities’ personal experiences, I Met a Psychopath featured several real criminal cases involving stalking and privacy violations.
One case involved a perpetrator who impersonated a victim through a random chat application, sharing her home address and door password online. As a result, numerous unsuspecting men arrived at the victim’s home. The culprit was later revealed to be her seemingly friendly neighbor.
Another case focused on an electrician who secretly installed a hidden camera inside a smoke detector, recording a married couple inside their home for five years. The offender was reportedly both the victims’ neighbor and the parent of their child’s classmate.
The episode also explored cases involving financial exploitation of elderly victims, including a man who posed as an elderly woman’s grandson for years to steal her pension and another fraudster who targeted a wealthy woman living with dementia.
Following the broadcast, the panel reflected on how one’s home often considered the safest place can become the setting for terrifying crimes, particularly for vulnerable members of society.
