Kim Young Kwang explains why he had to avoid his co-star Lee Sung Kyung on the set of “Call It Love”
Actor Kim Young Kwang talked about working with his close friend Lee Sung Kyung in a melodrama.
On April 10th, Kim Young Kwang had an interview with Wikitree at a cafe in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-du, Seoul, and revealed various stories about Disney+’s series “Call It Love”.
During the interview, Kim Young Kwang expressed his satisfaction with having an opportunity to act alongside Lee Sung Kyung. He said, “We were supposed to work together on a movie before, but it fell through. We contacted each other or meet up quite often after then and we said things like ‘We must do an acting project together’. That’s why it was comfortable and enjoyable for both of us to have a chance to work together this time.”
However, it is said that Kim Young Kwang often avoided Lee Sung Kyung on the set because they are so close to each other and that could interrupt his immersion in the character. In this regard, the actor explained, “It was always fun when we chatted, and the atmosphere was also brightened up. But then when I went back to act as Dong Jin, the director asked me, ‘Why is the corner of Dong Jin’s mouth going up? (Why are you smiling?)’. At that moment, I realized that my emotions were still showing on my face despite my efforts to act in certain ways. So, I tried to maintain the atmosphere surrounding Dong Jin by doing that (avoiding Lee Sung Kyung)”.
Kim Young Kwang and Lee Sung Kyung performed extraordinary chemistry enough to be seen as lovers. In fact, the production team of “Call It Love” even wondered if the two were actually dating in real life.
Regarding this story, Kim Young Kwang said, “The directed said Dong Jin looked at Woo Joo that way the moment he fell in love with her. I agree with that opinion. As the two gradually got close to each other, there was a moment when Dong Jin looked at Woo Joo and thought ‘This person comforts me, cares for me, and loves me’. I think Dong Jin has changed a lot from that moment.”
Meanwhile, “Call It Love” is an emotional romance drama that depicts the process of a woman who bravely seeks revenge and the man who becomes the target of her revenge opening their hearts to each other. Lee Sung Kyung appears as Shim Woo Joo, who takes revenge after witnessing her father’s affair during her childhood, and Kim Young Kwang plays Han Dong Jin, who looks perfect on the outside but is incredibly lonely inside.
