On December 14, a video titled “The critical moments Kim Soo Yong didn’t share on You Quiz: 20 minutes of cardiac arrest” was released on the YouTube channel Jodongari. The episode featured Kim Soo Yong candidly recounting what happened after he suddenly collapsed and was later pronounced dead.
As Kim Soo Yong returned to filming, fellow comedians Ji Suk Jin and Kim Yong Man warmly welcomed him, joking that applause was in order. The production team clapped, while others remarked that he looked younger and slimmer. Kim Soo Yong responded with humor, saying, “If you’ve been to the other world, you’re supposed to lose weight,” drawing laughter despite the gravity of his story.
The incident occurred on November 14 at a filming location in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, during a shoot for Kim Sook’s YouTube content. Kim Soo Yong suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the emergency room. His heart had stopped for approximately 20 minutes before he miraculously regained consciousness. He later underwent a stent procedure to treat his condition.
It was revealed that actor Im Hyung Joon, who was present at the scene, happened to have medication for angina and gave it to Kim Soo Yong immediately. Kim Sook quickly called emergency services, while her manager performed CPR until paramedics arrived, actions credited with saving his life.
Kim Yong Man recalled receiving the shocking phone call while traveling in Japan. He said he initially thought it was a joke, but quickly realized the severity when Kim Sook, in tears, asked for Kim Soo Yong’s wife’s contact information. “I was getting updates in real time, but there was nothing I could do. I could only cry,” he said.
He added that doctors had already issued a death pronouncement at one point. Kim Soo Yong later said hearing that detail afterward was horrifying. According to Kim Yong Man, paramedics managed to restart Kim Soo Yong’s heart and restore his breathing through continued CPR.
Ji Suk Jin also shared that Kim Soo Yong had not regained consciousness while being transported and that the ambulance had initially been headed toward Chuncheon, even considering the morgue, before diverting to a hospital in Guri after signs of recovery appeared.
Despite the life-or-death ordeal, Kim Soo Yong ended the story with humor. He recalled waking up in the intensive care unit and immediately asking about a jacket he had worn for the first time that day—a piece he cherished. When he tried to sit up to look for it, medical staff quickly stopped him, telling him to lie back down. Ji Suk Jin joked, “A guy who was on the brink of death…”
Kim Soo Yong’s story has since drawn attention not only for its shocking details but also for the quick thinking and teamwork that ultimately saved his life.
