On September 30, Kim Soo Hyun’s attorney, Go Sang Rok, addressed speculation tied to Kim’s alleged underage relationship with Kim Sae Ron, explaining that the photo — which resurfaced after Kim Sae Ron briefly posted and deleted it from social media in 2024 — has been misrepresented.
According to the lawyer, a draft statement circulated by Kim Sae Ron in March 2024 falsely claimed the image was from 2016, citing it as evidence of a six-year relationship starting in her middle school days . However, upon investigation, it was confirmed that the picture was actually taken in February 2020. “The photo was wrongly presented as dating back to her high school years. It became the sole piece of supposed evidence supporting the claim of an underage relationship,” Go stated.
The late actress had previously sparked dating rumors after posting the photo with Kim Soo Hyun cheek-to-cheek during the peak of Queen of Tears’ popularity, though Kim Soo Hyun’s agency quickly dismissed the speculation and called her actions inexplicable.
Go emphasized the sensitivity of revisiting details about Kim Sae Ron but underlined the need to correct false narratives. “False statements can be made under certain circumstances, but when they cause significant harm to another party, the consequences are grave. This misinformation was later weaponized in a major cybercrime,” he said, while refraining from revealing every detail out of respect for the deceased.
Kim Soo Hyun’s side continues to deny any inappropriate relationship during Kim Sae Ron’s minor years, maintaining that their relationship only began in late 2019 when she was already a university student. Meanwhile, Kim Soo Hyun’s team has filed both criminal charges and a ₩12 billion ($9 million USD) damages lawsuit against Kim Sae Ron’s family’s representatives and YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute, which pushed the claims.
Kim Sae Ron tragically passed away earlier this year at the age of 25. Her family has alleged she dated Kim Soo Hyun from her teenage years, but his legal team remains firm in disputing those claims.
