Kim Soo-hyun Divorces After 5 Years of Marriage with Former WeWork CEO, Who Drops Heart-breaking Photos Right After

Actress Kim Soo-hyun (Claudia Kim) has got a divorce after five years of marriage with former CEO husband Matthew Shampine.

According to an exclusive report by Star News on the 23rd, actress Soo-hyun (real name Kim Soo-hyun, 39 years old), who is also known as Claudia Kim, and her husband, Matthew Shampine (real name Cha Min-geun, 42 years old), have mutually agreed to part ways. 

The couple, who married in 2019, has officially ended their marriage after five years.

Details regarding the reason for their divorce and custody arrangements for their child have not been disclosed. Soo-hyun and Cha Min-geun welcomed a daughter in September, the year following their marriage.

Soo-hyun and Cha Min-geun were married on December 14, 2019, at a ceremony held at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul. Their relationship attracted significant attention as they announced their romance just four months prior to tying the knot. Their union, a combination of a celebrity and a young entrepreneur, was highly publicized. However, after 5 years, the two have decided to go their separate ways.

On the same day of the divorce’s announcement, Cha Min-geun published several photos with the caption, “Perfect fall weather.”

In the photo, CEO Cha Min-geun is posing affectionately with his daughter. The two are smiling brightly while looking at the camera. It is not known whether CEO Cha was aware of the divorce news, but after the divorce news came out, people’s attention was drawn to the photo he took with his daughter. The reason for Soo-hyun and CEO Cha’s divorce and the custody of their children have not been disclosed.

In 2021, Soo-hyun previously shared how CEO Cha adored his children via a TV show. At the time, the actress said, “My husband loves childcare so much that he’s the type to say, ‘If it’s hard, just go. I’ll do it. ‘”

In addition, Cha Min-geun’s personal account mostly has photos of his daughter, showing how much he loves his daughter. Soo-hyun’s personal account also has photos of her daily life with her daughter.

On the other hand, Soo-hyun first gained recognition in 2005 by winning first place at the Korea-China Supermodel Contest. She made her acting debut the following year in the SBS drama “Queen of the Game”. Since then, she has appeared in various dramas, including “The Fugitive: Plan B” (2010), “Romance Town” (2011), “Brain” (2011), “Standby” (2012), “7th Grade Civil Servant” (2013), “Monster” (2016), and “Chimera” (2021).

Additionally, Soo-hyun gained further international recognition when she was cast in the 2015 Marvel movie “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, thanks to her fluent English and acting skills. She then continued to build her overseas career, appearing in “The Dark Tower” (2017), “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” (2018), and the Netflix series “Marco Polo” (2014–2016).

Most recently, Soo-hyun left a strong impression in the Netflix series “Gyeongseong Creature” (2023-2024), where she played the role of Maeda, the season’s final boss. In the JTBC drama “The Atypical Family”, which concluded in June, she transformed her image by playing Bok Dong-hee, a character grounded by physical limitations. Soo-hyun is currently awaiting the October 9 release of the film “A Normal Family”, which marks her Korean film debut.

Cha Min-geun, meanwhile, served as the Head of Asia-Pacific and CEO of WeWork Korea until October 2019. He is currently the CEO of Dien Korea, a proptech company. Cha is a Korean-American adoptee raised in a family in New Jersey, USA.
