Recently, Kim Moo Yeol and Lee Sung Min appeared on Netflix Korea’s official YouTube channel, where they shared behind-the-scenes stories from the production of Teach You a Lesson.
During the conversation, the actors highlighted the effort Jin Ki Joo put into portraying her character Im Han Rim, a school authority inspector. Their comments drew attention because the actress has recently faced online debate over her performance. Much of the discussion focused on her distinctive “instructor-style” way of speaking, which has divided viewers and sparked ongoing arguments among audiences.

In the video, Jonathan pointed out, “When Im Han Rim changed from being a teacher to becoming a school authority inspector, her entire speaking style suddenly changed.” He added, “At that moment, it felt satisfying, like everything clicked into place.”
When Jonathan asked about the background behind Jin Ki Joo’s unique speech pattern, Kim Moo Yeol explained, “There isn’t any official manual for it. We trust the actor’s interpretation and let them develop the character in their own way.”

Lee Sung Min nodded and revealed that “Jin Ki Joo spent a lot of time studying the speech patterns of real female instructors.” Kim Moo Yeol also noted that Lee Sung Min contributed numerous ideas during the process. “Senior Lee Sung Min gave her a lot of inspiration,” he said. “Jin Ki Joo continued to develop and refine her performance based on those ideas.”
Kim Moo Yeol further praised his co-star’s dedication, revealing that she even sought help from a vocal coach because she wanted to project her voice more powerfully throughout the series.

Teach You a Lesson follows the Educational Rights Protection Bureau under the Ministry of Education as it works to restore order and authority within educational institutions. Since its release on June 5, the drama has attracted significant attention and even reached No. 1 in Netflix’s Global Non-English TV category.
