Actor Kim Min-jong recently revealed that his so-called “container house life” on SBS’s My Ugly Duckling was not real, but a television production setup, clarifying misunderstandings about alleged “dine-and-dash” incidents.
In November 2020, Kim Min-jong appeared on the show as a “new son,” showcasing a minimalist lifestyle in a container home in the mountains of Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province. The broadcast highlighted a simple kitchen, a small bed, and his morning routine of lighting a wood fire, which drew attention for its natural and pared-down aesthetic.
At the time, Kim Min-jong shared emotional reflections, including coping with his mother’s passing. MCs praised him as a “handsome natural man,” marveling at the contrast between his celebrity image and the simple lifestyle portrayed.

However, during a recent appearance on KBS1’s Morning Yard, Kim Min-jong revealed the truth behind the broadcast: “It was made to look like I was living in a container house, but that was for TV. I was filming in Yangpyeong near my mother’s resting place, but I wasn’t actually living there,” he explained. He added that many viewers mistakenly thought he had moved in, even joking about concerns over his long hair and beard.
Kim Min-jong also addressed rumors about not paying at a restaurant, clarifying: “I didn’t leave without paying. I tried to pay, but the owner refused my money.” He recounted humorously how the restaurant owner insisted on treating him, saying, “Why are you living like this? You were so handsome before… Eat well, I won’t take money.”
Concluding the interview, Kim Min-jong reassured fans, stating, “I am healthy and living well in Gangnam,” putting all rumors to rest.
