Singer Kim Jong-kook has found himself at the center of heated debate after his recent marriage, with growing calls for him to step down from SBS’s long-running reality show My Little Old Boy.

According to a poll conducted by Nate on September 1 under the title “‘Marriage’ Kim Joon-ho, Lee Sang-min → Kim Jong-kook Still on MLOLB… What Do You Think?”, an overwhelming 91% of 3,639 participants agreed that married cast members should no longer appear on the program. Only 9% expressed support for their continued participation, citing entertainment value.

The show, often described as a “rewritten parenting diary”, spotlights the daily lives of celebrity sons through the lens of their mothers. While there is no strict rule requiring cast members to remain unmarried, the program’s identity has long been associated with single male entertainers navigating life under their mothers’ watchful eyes.

Netizens expressed strong opinions, with many insisting:

  • If you’re married, you should step down.
  • The show’s concept is collapsing.
  • There are plenty of other shows he can join.

However, others defended Kim Jong-kook, arguing, “Even married, he can still be a ‘troublesome son’ in his mother’s eyes.”

In response to the controversy, the production team clarified, “There are no changes to the cast lineup, nor are any being discussed.”

This debate follows similar criticism directed at fellow cast members Kim Joon-ho, who married comedian Kim Ji-min in July, and Lee Sang-min, who registered his marriage with a non-celebrity partner in April.

Kim Jong-kook tied the knot with a non-celebrity bride on September 5 in a private ceremony held in Seoul. Despite his new marital status, it seems his presence on My Little Old Boy will remain unchanged—for now.
