“If we stay still, it will be gone. If one of us get married, it will be over.”
Kim Jong-kook finally broke his silence a month after the rumor of his romantic relationship with Yoon Eun-hye was reignited. He, who has neither affirmed nor denied the dating rumors, explained why he has remained silent until now, saying, “If we stay still, the rumors will disappear someday.” He has not denied any recent allegations of them being past lovers as well, saying he hopes Yoon Eun-hye will get married soon.
In the latest episode of KBS2’s entertainment show “Problem Child in House,” which aired on Jun 22nd, Kim Jong-kook revealed why he did not respond to his dating scandal with Yoon Eun-hye, which has lasted nearly 20 years. When Jeong Hyeong-don picked Kim Jong-kook, Yoon Eun-hye, Kim Sook, and Lee Dae-hyung as the representatives of the entertainment industry, Kim Jong-kook said, “I have had a wedding date set from 10 years ago.” When asked why he didn’t deny the rumors, Kim answered, “If you don’t do anything, the rumor will disappear soon and the public will move on. The moment you respond, it will get longer,” he explained.
“I have to stay calm and be patient. If I keep doing it, the rumor will disappear someday. Or if one of us gets married, it will be over,” he added. However, 47-year-old Kim Jong-kook and 39-year-old Yoon Eun-hye are still not married yet. Kim Jong-kook replied, “I don’t know why she hasn’t got married yet. She should do it quickly. I’m dying,” he joked.
It is the first time that Kim Jong-kook mentioned Yoon Eun-hye since their romance rumor resurfaced in May. At that time, Yoon Eun-hye was embroiled in suspicions that she was Kim Jong-kook’s ex-girlfriend due to a YouTube video released by her. Yoon Eun-hye recalled the memories with her ex-boyfriend and said she wrote down all the messages her ex-boyfriend sent in a small notebook, while Kim Jong-kook also said he had had a girlfriend who wrote down all the letters he sent her after he found his love letters while organizing the attic on SBS entertainment show “My Little Old Boy” in 2018.
Since a handwritten letter sent through text message was not common, netizens speculated that Kim Jong-kook and Yoon Eun-hye actually dated and then broke up. However, some argued that the handwriting in the letter and Yoon Eun-hye’s handwriting were different. Yoon Eun-hye’s reps denied the speculation and said, “The rumor that Yoon Eun-hye and Kim Jong-kook dated in the past is not true.”
Kim Jong-kook revealed the reason for his silence about dating rumors with Yoon Eun-hye through the broadcast that day, but did not make a clear comment on whether she was his ex-girlfriend. Contrary to Kim Jong-kook’s words that have been forgotten over time, rumors about their relationship are still going on for 20 years.
Yoon Eun-hye also indirectly mentioned Kim Jong-kook after their dating rumors. In an episode of MBC’s ‘Hangout with Yoo’ aired earlier this month, Yoon Eun-hye’s agency CEO warned Yoo Jae-suk, “You Pal-bong (Yoo Jae-suk), take responsibility.” Yoon Eun-hye said, “(Yoo Jae-suk) sold my name too much“, referring to the fact that in the past, Yoo Jae-suk often mentioned Yoon Eun-hye’s name in different variety shows, igniting her love line with Kim Jong-kook.
It remains unconfirmed whether or not Kim Jong-kook and Yoon Eun-hye were an item in the past, but the current Kim Jong-kook is hoping for Yoon Eun-hye to get married. He also expressed his own will for marriage by saying, “My goal is to get married within two years.” Attention is focused on whether one of the two will be able to put an end to their never-ending love line rumors by getting married.
