Actress Kim Hye-soo will be stepping down as the MC of the Blue Dragon Film Awards

On Nov 2nd, Sports Chosun reported that Kim Hye-soo will be stepping down from the MC position of the Blue Dragon Film Awards after 30 years.

Kim Hye-soo debuted in Chungmuro with the film “Ggambo” in 1986. Since then, she has established herself as a top star, known for her popular works.

After becoming the MC of the Blue Dragon Film Awards in 1993, apart from 1998 when actress Shim Hye-jin served as the MC, Kim Hye-soo has continued to host the event until the 44th Blue Dragon Film Awards to be held this year, marking her 30th year as the MC.

She was not just the MC but an active participant. Over the years, she has won the Best Leading Actress award three times, at the 14th Blue Dragon Film Awards in 1993, the 16th Blue Dragon Film Awards in 1995 and the 27th Blue Dragon Film Awards in 2006. She holds the record for the most wins in the Best Leading Actress category in Blue Dragon history.

Her first Best Leading Actress award, which she won at the age of 23 thanks to the film “First Love”, remains the youngest Best Leading Actress recipient in Blue Dragon Film Awards history for 27 years and counting.

Over 30 years, she solidified her position as an icon of the Blue Dragon Film Awards while hosting the event, adding the record for the longest-serving MC in the history of the Blue Dragon Film Awards.

Entering her 30s in the early to mid-2000s, she faced a natural slump due to the rise of the new generation of top stars. However, in 2006, her role as Jung Madam in the film “Tazza: The High Rollers” drew a massive audience of 6.84 million, leading her to a second heyday. She won 2 awards at the Blue Dragon Film Awards: Best Leading Actress and Popular Star.

Meanwhile, the 44th Blue Dragon Film Awards will take place at KBS Hall in Yeouido on Nov 24th.
