Kim Go-eun, Suzy, Seo Hyun-jin’s attack… Era of dramas with female one-top lead role

Dramas with female one-top lead role took over the small screen. Works featuring female characters on TV as well as OTT (over the top) are sweeping charts, showing “woman power” properly.

SBS’ Friday-Saturday drama “Why Her” starring Seo Hyun-jin has not missed the top spot in the same time slot after its first broadcast on June 3rd, beating So Ji-sub’s “Doctor Lawyer“. “Why Her”, which recently soared to the highest viewership rating of 10% (Nielsen Korea), is also the highest figure among the currently airing Monday-Tuesday and Wednesday-Thursday dramas. It is maintaining the top spot in wavve’s most viewed series rankings, and has not been out of the top spot on the OTT overall integrated chart (Kinolights) since it was first released.

Viewers are pouring out favorable reviews for Seo Hyun-jin’s acting as the youngest partner lawyer at a large law firm who has lived her life to achieve success, as well as her accurate diction. “Seo Hyun-jin Diction Highlight Video“, which SBS released on its official YouTube channel, surpassed 1.46 million views in just one month.

TVING’s original series “Yumi’s Cells Season 2” starring Kim Go-eun, which was released from June 10th, continued season 1’s popularity by ranking first in the paid subscription contribution rankings for 4 consecutive weeks. With two seasons, it drew attention as it recorded the highest number of paid subscribers among all TVING original contents.

It is popular not only in Korea but also abroad. It is being serviced in 160 countries around the world, including Europe, North America and Southeast Asia, through the global OTT “Rakuten Viki” and is causing a hot response. Upon its release, it was in the top 5 weekly on Rakuten Viki America/Europe, and its rating is maintained at 9.7 points (out of 10).

Suzy‘s first solo lead role, Coupang Play’s original series “Anna“, is also a hot topic. Suzy increased viewers’ immersion level with her delicate facial expressions. Thanks to this, she solidified her position as an actress and drew rave reviews. Not only did the drama rank first in Coupang Play’s most viewed content rankings, but it was also in the top 5 on the integrated OTT chart immediately after its release on June 24th. It is the highest ranking ever among Coupang Play’s contents. As of July 6th, it beat Netflix’s popular series “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” to rank third overall.
