On September 4, Kim Dong-wan shared a candid message on his personal social media, writing, “I hope the variety show offers stop coming. I’m not confident about being funny, and I don’t want to reveal personal stories in public. Digging into the past only leaves scars. Can’t I just live quietly without pretending to be happy or successful? I’d like to be left alone.”

He added, “If I’ve made excuses about my schedule three times, take the hint and stop. I know it’s probably orders from higher-ups, but still.”

When fans commented that he would still do well if he appeared, Kim admitted the process was draining. “If I go, I squeeze myself dry, then come home and drink too much… repeating that cycle is painful,” he confessed.

Though fans encouraged him to stay active on broadcasts, Kim explained, “I’d rather focus on things like music stages, dramas, or home shopping, where effort leads to results.”

One fan remarked, “Maybe they just don’t have anyone else to cast,” to which Kim sharply replied, “Bingo. That’s exactly why I don’t want to do it. They keep ignoring people who are desperate for opportunities and only call in easy targets like old-timers.”

However, when asked about a possible second season of Shinhwa Broadcast, Kim lightened the mood, responding, “Of course we should do it. The other members will be the funny ones anyway,” giving fans a laugh.
