Kep1er’s debut album causes controversy over uneven line distribution: Huening Bahiyyih gets a 3-second line despite ranking 2nd
Fans of Bahiyyih expressed their displeasure after the release of Kep1er’s debut album ‘FIRST IMPACT’.
On January 3, rookie girl group Kep1er officially debuted with their first mini album “FIRST IMPACT” and the title track “WA DA DA”. As a group that came out of a survival show, issues like center position, screen time and line distribution have quickly sparked fierce controversy within the group’s fandom.
After more than 2 months of competition, “Girls Planet 999″ introduced a line-up of 9 contestants to debut together in a project group with a contract that lasts for 2 and a half years. In the finale of “Girls Planet 999” taking place at the end of October 2021, the final rankings were as follows:
- 1st place: Kim Chaehyun (Korea)
- 2nd place: Huening Bahiyyih (Korea)
- 3rd place: Choi Yujin (Korea)
- 4th place: Kim Dayeon (Korea)
- 5th place: Seo Youngeun (Korea)
- 6th place: Kang Yeseo (Korea)
- 7th place: Ezaki Hikaru (Japan)

Since the lineup of Kep1er was decided by fan votes, fans around the world expected each member to be given the line and screen time that match their final ranks. But the reality is a whole different situation, and the worst case is Huening Bahiyyih.

Despite ranking 2nd in the final lineup, Huening Bahiyyih gets the least lines in the album “FIRST IMPACT”. In the b-side track “See The Light”, Bahiyyih could only sing for 3 seconds. Fans are obviously unhappy with this uneven distribution and have constantly voiced their complaints on SNS since the album’s release.
In contrast to Huening Bahiyyih, Kim Chaehyun – the final winner of “Girls Planet 999”, is the member with the most lines in “FIRST IMPACT”, followed by Kim Dayeon and Seo Youngeun. Prior to Kep1er’s debut, many fans had already predicted that Chaehyun, Youngeun and Dayeon would be pushed as Kep1er’s vocal trio, especially when these 3 members appeared together in the cover video for Taeyeon’s song “This Christmas” at the end of last year.
