In the October 15 episode of “Radio Star” (Ep. 936), Kang Ji Young appeared alongside Kang Ha Neul, Kang Young Seok, and Kim Young Kwang. Reflecting on her previous guest appearance, she said, “The last time I came here was when I was 19 — 12 years ago.”
Bringing up the infamous moment, Kang Ji Young admitted, “Back then, ‘Radio Star’ was known among idols as a terrifying show. The MCs asked me to act cute (aegyo), but I ended up crying. It became an issue unintentionally.”
During her 2013 appearance with fellow KARA members Han Seung Yeon and the late Goo Hara, Kang Ji Young burst into tears after being asked to do aegyo, leading to accusations of having a poor attitude.
She explained, “That was a transitional period for KARA, and we were all under a lot of stress due to contract issues. Looking back, I think I was just too young and stubborn then,” she said with a smile.
Host Kim Gu Ra added, “People still talk about that, but honestly, the atmosphere wasn’t bad at all. We were laughing. If it had been uncomfortable, the scene would’ve been edited out completely.”
Kang Ji Young said, “After that, I actually practiced aegyo because I felt traumatized by it,” prompting laughter in the studio. Kim Gu Ra replied, “There’s really no need to go that far,” keeping the light-hearted mood going.
Now active in both film and television, Kang Ji Young’s recent variety show appearance highlighted her growth and maturity — a far cry from the nervous teenager viewers remember from 12 years ago.
