Kakao Releases New Webtoon With Same Background As Netflix’s “Gyeongseong Creature”

On January 5th, Kakao Entertainment announced that they would release the webtoon “Gyeongseong Creature Exhibition: Unfading Flower” on Kakao Webtoon and Kakao Page.

Set in Ongseong Hospital in 1945 Gyeongseong, this webtoon revolves around the events on Manwol Island, where the monsters are born, through experiments during the same period as the drama “Gyeongseong Creature”.

The story will be about the main character Geum-ran, who transforms into a powerful being, not a monster, even after being experimented with, and her helper Byeong-gil unveiling the conspiracy.

Creating a new narrative centered around different characters in the same world, the webtoon is expected to enhance viewers’ enjoyment of the monster stories. In the meantime, the appearances of Chae-ok and General Kato will create intersections with the drama and complete the plot in a more abundant and three-dimensional way.

The webtoon was produced by Super Comics. It will be released in Korea at the end of this month and later published in North America, Thailand, Taiwan and Indonesia.

Recently, many webtoon producers have made attempts to tell stories happening in the same worldview as the popular ongoing dramas. In June last year, when “King the Land” was airing, a webtoon of the same name about the children of the main characters was serialized.

In October, “Strong Girl Hwang Geum-joo”, the spin-off webtoon of “Strong Girl Gang Nam-soon” telling the story of the main character’s mother, was also released.

Meanwhile, Part 2 of “Gyeongseong Creature” continued to be viral worldwide after its release on January 5th. According to Netflix on the 6th, the drama ranked third place in Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Drama Rankings. It also entered Top 10 in 69 countries, including Brazil, Argentina, Singapore, Japan, Thailand, France, and Australia.
