K-netizens Think Min Hee-jin & HYBE Dispute Has Affected NewJeans’s Popularity Overseas

Many people believe that the dispute between CEO Min Hee-jin and HYBE has caused NewJeans’s popularity overseas to decline

A netizen in Nate Pann made a post titled, “The reason NewJeans’s overseas popularity is decreasing”, drawing keen attention.

Adding screenshots of Spotify’s Global Daily Charts, the netizen commented, “In Korea, public opinion is easily manipulated by influential companies to some extent. But they cannot do anything to manipulate overseas fans. Unlike in Korea, the majority of overseas K-pop fans think NewJeans is being ungrateful after getting so many benefits from HYBE and BTS. In fact, 99% of people (except for the very few Bunnies) claim that NewJeans should have stayed neutral in the recent dispute. Just look at comments from overseas fans on YouTube videos”, adding “In short, for overseas fans, Min Hee-jin is like Ahn Sung-il and NewJeans is like the FIFTY FIFTY trio”.

They added, “Some claim that the chart is for Spotify streams in 2024, but it actually counts all the streams accumulated from all the songs since debut based on the word ‘so far’. NewJeans was very popular in the past, however, since that incident, their popularity has declined significantly”, adding “‘Magnetic’ was released just a few months ago but it is still charting. Meanwhile, with all the hit songs, NewJeans is still out of the chart”.

In response, other netizens commented:

– It is true that their popularity has declined severely. Even their fandom agreed that achievements have dropped by 70%

– They were doing fine in the first half of the year, how could they drop so much on Global Spotify and not even enter US Spotify? The group suffered great damage due to the issue, so will they be okay in the future? Once you lose the heat in the overseas market, it’s not easy to recover

– Bunnies are still boasting about NewJeans’s good performance, but do they really know this? It’s funny to see them deny it even though the group ranks at the bottom of Global Spotify and could not even enter US Spotify

– Looking at the issue in this way, I’m sure NewJeans’s popularity went down a lot after Min Hee-jin’s dispute. They were still doing well until May, but since the incident broke out in May and continued to July, the group’s reputation completely declined. But their performances from January to May can still cover the recent two months, right? If you see the results from June, I believe it will be even lower.

– Although the group is not doing well, they’re still better than LE SSERAFIM. What a comedy!ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Their accumulated figure is even more than doubleㅋㅋㅋ
