JYP’s New Girl Group VCHA Active in both the US and Korea Makes Their Debut Today (Sep 22)

JYP Entertainment’s rookie global girl group, VCHA, has officially made their debut

According to JYP Entertainment, VCHA released their pre-debut single, “SeVit (NEW LIGHT),” along with the title track “Y.O.Universe” on September 22nd at 1 PM EST.

VCHA is a girl group launched through a joint project between JYP Entertainment and Republic Records called “A2K” (America2Korea). It consists of six members who successfully passed the final gateway towards debut in both the United States and Korea: Lexi, KG, Camila, Savanna, Kaylee, and Kendall.

Lexi, KG, Camila, Savanna, Kaylee, and Kendall were selected as VCHA’s final members based on their evaluations in various categories such as singing, dancing, star quality, and personality during the “A2K” project. The group name “VCHA,” revealed during the final episode of “A2K,” symbolizes the team’s identity. The name was inspired by the desire to shine bright in front of fans and the world, with the meaning “A2K” devised personally by Park Jin Young, who spearheaded the project.

VCHA’s pre-debut single, “SeVit (NEW LIGHT),” which they unveiled on September 22nd, carries the meaning of “new light” while also reflecting the group’s strong unity. Renowned songwriters, including Park Jin Young, the CEO of JYP, Cirkut, who produced Sam Smith’s Grammy-winning song “Unholy,” and David Stewart, who worked on BTS’s “Dynamite,” contributed to enhance the quality of the single.

The new single includes three tracks: the title track “Y.O.Universe” and additional songs “Go Getter” and “Know Me Like That,” all presented by the six members’ voices as the grand finale of the “A2K” project.

The title track “Y.O.Universe,” which saw contributions from Park Jin Young, Cirkut, and others in songwriting and composition, unravels the stories of the “A2K” series and delivers a message of “We are special because we are all different.” It’s an up-tempo pop song.

The colossal project “A2K,” a collaboration between K-pop’s leading agency, JYP, and Republic Records, the number one label in the United States according to Billboard, was unveiled through JYP’s official YouTube channel in July 2023.

Based on North America’s first K-pop training system, the global girl group launching survival project had JYP’s leader, Park Jin Young, serving as an audition judge. He personally assessed candidates with dreams and potential in five major U.S. cities – Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Dallas, and LA, as well as the LA boot camp, before selecting members who would ultimately debut in Korea.

The contestants’ dedication, efforts towards their dreams, and Park Jin Young’s honest evaluations received an enthusiastic response from global fans, leading to the success of “A2K,” with a total YouTube view count exceeding 50 million.

Meanwhile, VCHA’s pre-debut single, “SeVit (NEW LIGHT),” and the title track “Y.O.Universe” were released on music streaming platforms at 1 PM KST on the same day. VCHA is also scheduled to appear on Korean music broadcasts to meet their domestic fans.
