JYP’s new girl group NMIXX: “We will do our best to maintain the public’s trust in JYP as a ‘girl group master'”
NMIXX, a seven-member rookie girl group ambitiously prepared by “girl group master” JYP Entertainment, challenged the music industry with their debut single “AD MARE”.
At the debut showcase held online on the afternoon of March 1st, NMIXX shared their thoughts, “We will do our best to maintain the public’s trust in JYP as a ‘girl group master’.”
NMIXX released their debut single on February 22nd, but the showcase was delayed by a week as member Bae tested positive for COVID-19.
NMIXX received early attention as the first girl group to be introduced in 3 years by JYP Entertainment, which produced girl groups that left big marks in the music industry such as Wonder Girls, Miss A, TWICE and ITZY.
The group name NMIXX is a combination of “N” in now, new, next, the unknown quantity n and “MIX” which symbolizes diversity. It means “the best combination that will be responsible for the new era”.
Leader Haewon said, “All seven members have different infinite charms. By combining these charms into one, we have a strong ambition to show a new color that doesn’t exist in this world and can’t be measured.”
Lily said, “When I first heard the group name, I thought it suited us very well,” adding, “I liked the fact that there was not one X but two Xs in the team name.” “It seemed to be a chic, cool, and easy to remember name,” she said.
In July last year, the group’s “Blind Package” album with no information about the members recorded 60,000 pre-orders in 10 days. Its sales (initial sales) in the first week since the album’s release, which is considered a measure of popularity, recorded 227,399 copies based on Hanteo Chart, ranking first among all girl group debut albums.
Lily said, “I was worried whether anyone would buy blind packages without published information (of the group), but I was surprised to hear that it recorded a high sales of 60,000 copies,” adding, “I got goosebumps when I thought about how it would feel to perform in front of 60,000 people.” “I think this is the result of the trust of K-pop fans and the public toward JYP, a famous girl group maker,” she pointed out.
NMIXX’s debut single “Ad Mare,” meaning “to the sea,” contains a total of four songs, the title song “O.O,” the track “占·TANK,” and instrumental versions of these two songs.
The title song “O.O” is a mixed pop song with the genre of Bailey Punk and Teenage Pop Rock, and contains a bold message telling us to prepare for NMIXX’s surprise. The song “占·TANK” is a hip-hop RnB song with punk rock base.
Bae said, “Our identity is to create infinite synergy by mixing infinite charms that an exact number cannot be specified,” adding, “As our debut single ‘Ad Mare’ means ‘toward the sea,’ we will show you our identity as a bold girl group on an adventure toward utopia.”
Lily said, “We will become a group that you want to watch again even after watching us 777 times.”
