SBS’s brand-new Friday–Saturday drama Would You Marry Me? began with a fast-paced, emotional, and unexpected storyline Jung So Min’s character proposing first and declaring independence after heartbreak.
The series premiered on October 10, and its first episode instantly captivated viewers, recording a peak rating of 7.0% nationwide and topping its time slot across all channels. The show stars Choi Woo-shik as the perfectionist chaebol heir Kim Woo-joo and Jung So-min as Yoo Me-ri, a woman caught between misfortune and serendipity.

Episode 1 opens with Me-ri discovering her fiancé’s infidelity right before the wedding. Even worse, she has already completed the marriage registration due to a housing loan under their joint names.
In one cathartic scene, Me-ri confronts him and says, “If I live with you, I’ll end up divorcing you anyway. Then I’d rather just do it now.” She pours her drink on him, ending the relationship with style.
A month later, Me-ri finalizes the divorce but before she can recover emotionally, she is hit by a rental fraud scam involving her would-be newlywed home. Her ex coldly refuses to help, saying, “We’re nothing now.”

At her lowest point, Me-ri drunkenly stumbles into a minor accident with Kim Woo-joo (Choi Woo-shik), who happens to share the same name as her ex. Mistaking him for her former fiancé, a chaotic, hilarious misunderstanding ensues complete with cactus injuries, emotional confessions, and Woo-joo’s reluctant kindness as he takes her to the hospital.
Their chemistry begins from this accidental meeting blending comedy, heartache, and destiny.
As if fate were teasing her, Me-ri suddenly learns she has won a ₩5 billion luxury townhouse in a newlywed event giveaway. However, because the prize is restricted to married couples, she must attend the award ceremony with her husband.
With her divorce papers still unfiled, Me-ri finds herself in a dilemma until she meets Woo-joo again. Nervously, she blurts out, “I know this is sudden, but… will you be my husband?”

The episode ends with Woo-joo’s stunned expression, setting the stage for a whirlwind romance.
Would You Marry Me? earned praise for its dynamic pacing and heart-fluttering romantic energy. Viewers highlighted the chemistry between Choi Woo-shik and Jung So-min, calling it “refreshing, emotional, and irresistibly funny.”
Choi Woo-shik impressed audiences with his portrayal of a stoic yet warm-hearted chaebol, while Jung So-min’s layered performance balancing heartbreak, humor, and hope showcased her growth as one of Korea’s most versatile rom-com actresses.
