BLACKPINK Jisoo’s first drama, Snowdrop, will officially premiere on December 18 of this year.  Before the premiere, Kim Jisoo and co-star Jung Hae In revealed about the plot, details and behind-the-scenes with Harper’s Bazaar in a recent interview.

The drama “Snowdrop” is set in 1987 in South Korea. This is the period when Korea was experiencing social chaos.  After President Park Chung Hee was assassinated in 1979, politician Jeon Du Hwan came to power and established a military dictatorship. The drama is a black comedy that mocks the election as a joke of the military dictatorial government through the love story of young people who want to overthrow the old regime to re-establish democracy in the country.

BLACKPINK’s Jisoo plays the role of Young Ro, a student at a women’s university. One day, she meets Su Ho (played by Jung Hae In) when he rushes into the girls’ dormitory, covered in blood.  Young Ro decided to help Su Ho, protect and help him escape danger.

Jung Hae In believes that the drama will be successful because of the attractive script

Jung Hae In is a familiar name in the Korean drama industry. After the success of the dramas “While You Were Sleeping” (2017) and “Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food” (2018), the actor received offers from many big projects. Why did Jung Hae In choose “Snowdrop” over other productions?  “The biggest reason is because of the script.  The story is engaging, the scriptwriter is talented…I have a lot of faith in the scriptwriter and the director,” he said.  “You know, I was born in 1988. 1987 is a year that I have never experienced.  But just by reading the script, I can imagine the life of South Korea at that time.”

To prepare for the role of Su Ho, Jung Jae In has done more exercising.  “If your health is weak, your spirit will also be weak. Exercising helps me focus better during filming.”

However, the actor confessed that the process of filming “Snowdrop” was very difficult for him.  “Sometimes I felt like I was having an acting slump. Therefore, I had to rely a lot on the director’s guidance and the coordination of Jisoo, as well as the other members of the production team. At this point, I realized that I can’t do it alone, I need everyone’s support to be able to complete the job in the best way.”

Besides, Jung Hae In also made many compliments towards Jisoo.  “Snowdrop” is Jisoo’s debut drama “but her acting is so good.  A lot of the scenes require flexibility in the character portrayal, I admire the way she created the character Young Ro.”

Talking about the experience while filming her first main role, BLACKPINK Jisoo said she was so lucky to receive the role in “Snowdrop”. Jisoo said, “My character – Youngro has a bright and optimistic personality. She gives her positive energy to people around her. Her energetic side also inspired me. I have learned a lot of things about treating others from Youngro.”

What Jisoo loves the most about this “Snowdrop” project is the friendly atmosphere at the filming site. It seems like the production team has forgotten that Jisoo is a member of a top KPOP girl group and treated her as “Snowdrop” Youngro instead of BLACKPINK Jisoo. In this regard, Jisoo shared, “That’s why I was able to immerse myself in portraying the character.”

Since “Snowdrop” was Jisoo’s first time playing the main character, she also received a lot of help from other people. She said, “I think my biggest power is not to give up, always smile and keep moving forward”. Jisoo revealed that BLACKPINK members also showed their support for Jisoo, saying, “They promised to watch the drama immediately after it is released. That’s why I think I should work harder.”

However, Jisoo said she might watch the drama alone instead of enjoying it with BLACKPINK members. She said, “I’m not confident enough to do so. Maybe I will just cover my eyes and only sneak at the screen through the small spaces between my fingers”, she smiled.
