Jung Eun-hye, the actress with Down syndrome, drew the ending pictures for “Our Blues”, “Han Ji-min, Kim Woo-bin, I miss you”

“Our Blues” spread good influence by warmly telling the stories of those who are often alienated from society.

tvN’s Saturday-Sunday drama “Our Blues” (scripted by Noh Hee-kyung, directed by Kim Kyu-tae, Kim Yang-hee, Lee Jin-mook/ planned by Studio Dragon) drew attention with the story of “Young-ok, Jung-joon and Young-hee” in the 14th and 15th episodes. By depicting the pain of Lee Young-ok (Han Ji-min), whose twin sister Lee Young-hee has Down syndrome, the love of Park Jung-joon (Kim Woo-bin), who tried to protect his lover, and the story of Lee Young-hee, who showed her growth through amazing paintings that went beyond the expectations of everyone, left a great impression on all the viewers.

Above all, the reason why the lingering emotion was heavier is that the role of Lee Young-hee was played by an actress who has Down syndrome. Jung Eun-hye, who appeared as Lee Young-hee in “Our Blues”, is a caricature artist who draws people’s faces in real life. She caught the eyes of viewers by showing immersive emotional acting and amazing chemistry with Han Ji-min and Kim Woo-bin. Screenwriter Noh Hee-kyung, who spent a year communicating with Jung Eun-hye, expressed her sincerity through the process of transforming Jung Eun-hye into the character Lee Young-hee.

In addition, Lee So-byul, who plays Byul, a character with hearing impairment in “Our Blues”, is also known to be a deaf-impaired actress in real life. Byul, who sells coffee in the market in Pureung Village, performed lines in sign language. Her love line with Park Jung-joon’s younger brother Ki-joon (Baek Seung-do) in the latest broadcast also drew attention. In fact, it is said that Noh Hee-kyung directly asked Lee So-byul to appear in the drama after seeing her on a show.

“Our Blues”, which depicts various life stories, brought about stories of characters that have not been seen frequently in dramas as the main theme for some episodes, showing deep resonance and respect for them. The will and efforts of the writer, directors, and actors to convey such messages also shone. The production team of “Our Blues” also revealed the warm atmosphere while filming and behind the scenes through an interview.

Regarding Jung Eun-hye’s acting director Kim Kyu-tae said, “She was unfamiliar with the shooting atmosphere at first, but she did really well after a few takes. I think she did not just act but she tried her own experience and stories in her performance. The process touched us a lot”, adding, “Han Ji-min and Kim Woo-bin also impressed me. They harmonized so well with actress Jung Eun-hye. They were like angels who protected Jung Eun-hye. They had done such a great job.”

Han Ji-min and Kim Woo-bin spent time getting close to Jung Eun-hye before the filming started. It was to make sure that Jung Eun-hye could act comfortably on the filming set with so many people. Han Ji-min revealed a pleasant behind story, saying “After actress Jung Eun-hye got closer to us and became more familiar with the filming atmosphere, she was really professional. Unexpectedly, I was in trouble for making NGs.”

Han Ji-min also talked about the background of her responsibility for acting in the drama. She said, “I wanted to act carefully because I had to express the story on behalf of friends and their families with disabilities as well as Down syndrome. I remember actress Jung Eun-hye’s mother asking writer Noh Hee-kyung, ‘How did you write as if you were in my heart?’ I hope that prejudice against disabilities will change a lot through this drama.”

# Jung Eun-hye did all the drawings at the end of ep 15

“I miss Han Ji-min and Kim Woo-bin,” Jung Eun-hye, the main character of the talk, also shared her thoughts on filming. Jung Eun-hye said, “Writer Noh Hee-kyung offered me an appearance in the drama, and I was so surprised and happy. It has been comfortable being around Young-ok (Han Ji-min) and Jeong-joon (Kim Woo-bin) since we first met. The set was so exciting and fun, and I miss that time.”

All the drawings at the end of episode 15 were drawn by Jung Eun-hye herself. She is a real caricature artist. Jung Eun-hye said, “I received pictures of the actors, so I kept drawing on days without filming or after filming was over. Later, I also drew the staff that I became close to. It wasn’t hard and it was really fun.”

# Lee So-byul is no different from her character

“Byul, written by writer Noh Hee-kyung, is no different from me,” said deaf actress Lee So-byul, who plays Byul. She revealed how she was cast, saying, “Writer Noh Hee-kyung contacted me directly and suggested that she wanted to work with me. She felt so honored and glad that I immediately agreed.” She continued, “Byul, written by writer Noh Hee-kyung, is not much different from the real me. People have a misconception that ‘because I am deaf, I can’t speak’, but that is not necessarily the case. Each deaf person is different. In my case, I can sign and talk.” Lee So-byul, who communicates in sign language in the drama, said, “I had to translate into sign language (like when translating into English). I studied it so that the deaf could understand it when they watched it, and I paid the most attention to this.”

“Our Blues” is currently broadcast every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 pm KST. The video of director Kim Kyu-tae, Han Ji-min, and Kim Woo-bin’s commentary interview on the episode of “Young-ok, Jeong-jun, and Young-hee” can be found on the official YouTube channel “tvN drama”.
