“Jujutsu Kaisen” Ending Shares Major Similarity with “Attack on Titan”

The "Jujutsu Kaisen" reveals its ending at chapter 271, which seems to share a significant similarity with "Attack on Titan".

Jujutsu Kaisen” follows the story of Yuji Itadori, a young man drawn into the world of curses after swallowing one of Sukuna’s fingers and becoming a vessel for the King of Curses. The “Shinjuku Showdown” marks the final arc of the series, where the sorcerers band together to defeat Sukuna, Kenjaku, and Uraume.

Among all the villains, the battle against the strongest one was the most difficult for the sorcerers to date. The series begins with the appearance of Sukuna and ends with his defeat. Therefore, as the main antagonist of the series, Sukuna only dies due to the combined efforts of the main characters.

While “Jujutsu Kaisen”‘s ending has been criticized and is considered unsatisfactory by many fans, it bears a striking resemblance to “Attack on Titan”‘s conclusion.

What Happens in the Ending of “Jujutsu Kaisen”?

According to the reveal in chapter 271, the final panel shows one of Sukuna’s fingers sealed inside a box. In Shinjuku, Sukuna had gained the power of 19 fingers and consumed the skull of his original body to compensate for the missing 20th finger.

The last finger was sealed to deceive him. Additionally, Nobara used the Resonance technique on it to weaken the villain during the battle. However, the finger itself could not be destroyed. As a result, the sorcerers had no choice but to seal it. The curse would now gradually weaken over the years.

As long as the curse exists, there remains the possibility of another vessel appearing. Furthermore, Sukuna encounters Mahito on the path where souls go to complete their cycle. He states that next time, he will take a different path in life, hinting that Sukuna hopes for another chance at life.

In a way, the final episode of “Jujutsu Kaisen” closely resembles “Attack on Titan“, as both series end by showing that “the cycle continues.” Years after the war in “Attack on Titan”, a boy and his dog discover the tree where Eren was buried.

Now, the tree resembles the one where the Founding Titan Ymir gained the power of the Titans. This implies that the boy may acquire the power of the Titans, bringing that strength back into the world. In other words, the conflict will never truly end, and the world remains at risk of going through everything all over again.
