Jo Kwon Reveals His Love Story, “I Wanted To Marry My Ex But We Broke Up A Year Ago”
Singer Jo Kwon told his heartbreaking romance to explain how his mood when singing changed after experiencing love
The April 16th broadcast of SBS’s entertainment program “Strong Heart VS” featured the guest appearance of Nam Gyu-ri, Lee Hong-ki, Jo Kwon, Jung Yi-rang, and Yoon Soo-hyun.
On the show, Jeon Hyun-moo asked Jo Kwon, “Is imaginary love the source of your sorrowful songs?”. In response, Jo Kwon said, “I started my trainee life at 13 and debuted at the age of 20, I didn’t have time to experience dating and couldn’t relate to such lyrics either. That’s why I sang while thinking about my family stories and difficult things that happened to me when I was a trainee”.
However, Jo Kwon, who is already 36 now, shared, “I understand it now”, revealing his love story.
He confessed, “I only dated one person for quite a long time. I think I must have loved that person so much. I know I have many talents, but if that person asked me to quit being a singer and live a normal life, I might do it for real”. Jo Kwon’s ex-lover is a non-celebrity and they already broke up. The male singer said, “I could feel that ‘This Song’ I recorded after dating and breaking up is completely different from ‘This Song’ 16 years ago. After experiencing love, I feel something different when singing”.
Regarding his ex-lover X, Jo Kwon said, “We broke up a year ago, but we wrote letters to each other every day after our breakup”, adding “I bought a Bruno Mars concert ticket and sent it to her but she returned it to me”.
Recalling when he met X in his neighborhood after their breakup, Jo Kwon said, “You know the feeling of coldness on your ex’s face? I was very upset but X told me to stop being like that. At that time, it started raining heavily. It looked exactly like some scenes I only saw in movies and dramas”.
He added, “I even knelt down and grabbed her pants because I thought there was no reason for us to break up. Even after dating for a long time, a relationship can fall apart within just five minutes. I really wanted to marry that person”.
